Evaluation

My music video HALLELUJAH is by a group called GMAQK, they rap and sing, the video I made has the characteristics of the hip-hop rap genre like the fast lyrics, the camera movement from place to place and the swift beat used for the music. The video is performance based and concept based as well, like when one of the rappers IKING says “no need to hustle” we can see that earlier on he was playing basketball and with easy he did a lay up and got it right at the first attempt. There was a slight bit of intertextual reference in the first rappers verse ROB when he said “am rooted in him like a tree” and he is standing right in front of a big tree. The rest of the video is performance based.
When I finished the video people commented on my opening credit the effect I used on the word “HALLELUJAH” and about the freeze frame with names of the rappers, also some people said the black and white works on it. These characteristics of my video in similarity to some other rap videos like “Bibles Bibles” and Victizzle’s “Jam yourself”. These videos are similar to mine with the fast cuts and dissolves used also with the rapping and moving camera giving the scene life and movement.
The Hip-hop genre and rap is more about the male domination and most times when any music is made in the hip-hop rap genre the artist is either a male or a group of male artists which my group GMAQK is.
I think the video came together well with only two days of shooting and at most 2hrs each day as well as the editing and the hitches I encountered like loosing my video edits twice and having to re-log everything and re-edit but I think it still came out well. To exhibit my video I will get young people who are interested in rap and show it to them on a projected screen or a computer screen via youtube.

Production Diary

Week 1
When the we were given the tasks I had to go to different friends and contacts to know if they needed someone to do a video for them, and from what i learnt in class from studying the codes, conventions and different genres of music video in which i used rap and uk garage i decided to use a youth group that raps hiphop on the 140bpm.

Week 2
I contacted them and sold my idea for a music video of their hit track HALLELUJAH and they liked it so i went on to meet meet my tutor letting him know i have found a group and they song unsigned and copyright free.

Week 3
I started my paperwork and research on how to shoot a music video and i decided to go with the freelance style, just a mix of shots and individual takes to streamline into a good video.

Week 4
Still in preparation for the video that i planed on shooting during the half term i had to keep close contact with the group so i could be addressed incase of any mishaps and i did contingency planing with my mate for him to do a quick video with me at any point i need him to.

Week 5
Planning for the video and paperwork. I also booked a slot at the horsham youth centre so that they are aware that i would be using the hall or surroundings for filming.

Week 6
Started the first batch of filming the basketball bit and one of the rappers verse at the basketball court, was a long day but still worth it.

Week 7
Second day of filming after last weeks filming on the basketball court, today i will be shooting the three other rappers verses and a bit of cutaway footage, not easy beign a director and camera man but will be worth it.

Week 8
Back to college started logging my footage and have to start editing so i can finish it early but the editing is looking difficult especially to get the rap verses in sink.

Week 9
Made progress in my editing and it is going well might put it out for the video festival that the other students are making.

Week 10
Done my video and lost it because the computer crashed, dont know what to do. My tutors are trying to help me get it back and but its gone so i have to relog my footage and link it back, that also means i need to re-edit the whole video.

Week 11
Done the video now, need to put my beginning credits and the end cedits as well as make up my mind on what things i need to remove from my video that are not neccessary to be there.

Week 12
Done everything and my tutor has watched the video and recommended that i can burn it to a disc and arrange all my work to submit.

NEFF
Yo, yo, yo
Haahahaa!

yo if ever we was ever to deliver our fellas,
with the power of our dwellings,
the tower of the swellings of our pride,
will be double over-shaddowed by or actions,
that describes why the father wouldn't let us,
three days he was sitting rigid on a pivot,
the reasoning of people was he's never gonna get up
mary's faith was as tough as a metal,
just because of that she was deserving of a medal,
they all wished his resurrection would'v sped up,
and let off the good news across every set up,
tell all, let all, know he's resurrected,
the septre's broken, the keys recollected,
blessed with reason to belittle the devourer,
his ora porer, all that border, towards us,
drawing us, further from the father,
torn up, pored out, all that, over (3mins:21secs)

CHORUS
thats why i sing hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah
thats why i sing hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah,
thats why i sing hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah,
thats why i sing, thats why i sing,
Hallelujah (3mins:35secs)
